Foot position after serve

Serving

Hi,

i do a backhand serve from the left side of the table as a righthander. My left foot is a little bit more away from the table than the right one. So my body turns slightly to the left. Now i serve short to the opponents forehand. After the serve i stand parallel to the table. If i face a return to my forehand there is no problem. I attack long and push if short. I yet cant attack a short ball good enough. If i get a long return to my backhand i mostly topspin with no problem. If it is short I somehow cant handle it good enough. I lately practicing attacking short returns and I feel really comfortable, but if i dont know the ball is coming short and it is coming short I somehow stand parallel to the table and kind of falling over without doing a step forward when i try to attack it. I would consider myself very agile, so the movement speed shouldnt be the problem. But I cant figure out whats the problem.

Please help!

greetings Manuel

Hi Manuel,

Try when you finish your serve to balance yourself and for a while, do a little jump straight after you get into that balanced position.  This will balance you up a little better and then you will be able to move in any direction for the next ball.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Variation of Placement

The exact same serve placed to a different spot on the table can be much more difficult for your opponent to return.
