Strokes
Hi!Alois, how do i play a forehand counter loop from near the table? i am able to do the stroke from the back of the table, but fail to execute the stroke consistently from near the table. Most of the better players like ma long and zhang jike are very good at this stroke but i am finding it quite difficult in making the stroke quick enough and with the proper timing from near the table. would be glad if you could help me out. Thanks!
Hi Aahel,
This is a very advanced stroke. The top players may make it look like a simple stroke but in fact it is very difficult.
Start with just putting a little topspin on your block and then build it up from there. Each time try to put a little more topspin on the ball. You stroke will start quite small and start to increase the swing slightly and also the brushing contact. However you don't have a lot of time. Therefore to make this stroke, even on the full topspin stroke you don't need such a big swing because the ball already has a lot of spin and speed so just use that to counter topspin the ball.
Our advice is to avoid the backhand smash and play the forehand smash instead. However if you do get caught out and need to play it, watch this video to learn the right technique to use.

i am just not getting enough brushing on the ball when it is coming at that speed.hence most of the balls are going long.is this due to my rubber or does my stroke need improvement?
What type of rubber are you using? Spin is important to get the ball down quickly.

so substandard rubber does not produce enough spin to loop it back on to the table . no wonder my close to the table slow loops do not land no matter how much spin i put andslowly the ball travels they overshoot the edge !!!!
