Hi coach I can do the slide/fade forehand fairly consistently but im having troubles with controlling the hook shot, the ball goes too much towards the way of the spin so i sometimes end up missing the table. any help would be appreciated

Hi,

This is the difficulty of the sidespin topspin.  Because you don't have as much topspin it is more difficult to get the ball to dip onto the table.

Try easing off the pace a little or aiming a little more towards the right (if you are right handed) tocompensate for the sidespin.  You could even just add a little more topspin to get the ball to dip onto the table.

Hope these suggestions help. Give them a try.

Choosing forehand or backhand against sidespin serves

Some players prefer playing with the spin when receiving a sidespin serve by using their forehand, and some prefer playing against it by using their backhand.
