Strokes
Hi Alois and Pingskills
i have serius doubts about the forehand topspin off backspin, i saw your video and i could see that the finish position that adopts Jeff is like if he stand up...my question, Is necessary do this to lift the ball over the net, is effective, or just must to use the speed of the forearm? i saw a lot videos and i don't see to a professional adopting this finish position. By the other hand from i do this I have less problems against a backspin ball, although against a chopper still is complicated to me...There's no other way to defeat the backspin?
My other doubt is about the curve of my loop...How i can control this?
Please Pingskills help and thanks
Hi Cristh,
The stroke that we show you is one that will work for you to get the ball over the net against backspin. The stroke that you are seeing the professionals do is a stroke that is advanced that needs a lot more work and skill because they are swinging faster and coming more forward on the stroke to generate speed. This can only be done with a lot of training to get the timing perfect each time.
So since you are finding the stroke that we show you effective, stay with it.
On the other matter, to stop the ball curving on the topspin you need to make sure that your wrist is straight on contact with the ball. If you drop the end of your racket the ball will curve to the left. A good way to correct this is to see if you can get the ball curving the other way. this will give you a better understanding of your wrist position.
This video explains in detail how the fingers should be placed and used when using the shakehand grip. By using the fingers correctly you can get the maximum flexibility and therefore benefit out of each of your strokes.

Everithing is great, but for curve i mean to the parable, the arc of the ball when we contact this
thaks for everything (Please sorry for my English)
Hi Cristh,
Sorry, I think I misunderstood what you meant.
To control the curve or dip on the ball is all about the amount of topspin you can put on the ball. The more topspin the more the ball will curve down. Also the slower ball will dip faster, the faster ball will have too much forward power to dip quickly.
