Hi Alois,

Now a days I am focusing more on placement as I find that my opponent blocks all my super fast top-spins without even moving a bit from his place. He is just standing with the racket angle tilted and don't know why but all efforts I put in making my topspin go somewhere else fail.

So, from then on I realized that I need to improve my placement skills. Now I have one problem. I am a right hander and I can make my topspin go cross court (from my forehand to my opponent's forehand) my opponent is also right hander.  I can make the ball go from my forehand to my opponents backhand.  But I cant make the ball go from my backhand to my opponents backhand with a forehand topspin or backhand topspin.

Please help.

Thanks,

Moxie

Hi Moxie,

Think about keeping your wrist relaxed to allow it to move backwards sand forwards to alter the placement.  You can also hit the ball a little earlier or later to adjust the positioning.

In training put some targets on the table where you want the ball to go and try to hit them.  On the backhand side hit the ball a little later when it is closer to you to get it down the line.  If you have pivoted and are playing a forehand from the backhand corner, hit it a little earlier.

Hi Alois, I think I was not able to make you understand what I mean to say (probably because of my bad English), lets give one more try,

I am a right-hander and so is my opponent. OK.

I am able to hit a FOREHAND topspin shot both in cross court and down the line from my FOREHAND CORNER (where I have the whole table open at my backhand) if I am standing to my backhand corner (now I have the whole table open to my forehand) I can hit FOREHAND topspin shot to my opponent's backhand (down the line).

But the problem is when I am standing at my backhand corner (whole table open to my forehand) I cant make my topspin shot go cross court (to my opponent's forehand) in such a situation. I have to use a backhand topspin to do so then. You will probably say then why not use the backhand topspin only but I will say that I have a strong forehand and can make a much improved shot with my forehand.

Can such a shot be possible? If so then when should I hit the ball to make such placement?

It was the best way I could explain.

Anyway Thanks

Moxie

Take a look at this video answer on Forehand Pivot Footwork and let me know if it helps.  To get the ball across you need to hit the ball later.

Oh! I wanted to know this only. Thank you very much for that video answer. The only reason I could not find it was because of the name. I didn't know that what I want to know about could be explained in three simple words.

Anyways, THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Moxie.
