Hi,

Alois & Jeff first of all thank u very much for ur commitment towards this game & most important ur attitude to give ur skills to others.

Am following ur videos on regular basis & trying to execute it during practice session every day.

Regarding  forehand topspin ,I  practicing it since last two months but still not perfect enough as per ur video.

I am feeling my right hand heavy while playing this shot & not able to produce that whipping action to play it effectively.

I think am playing with more from shoulder than from elbow.

Can u pl guide me more on this particular shot?

Thanks,

Deepak

Hi Deepak,

Thanks for your kind words about the site.

Try to focus on relaxing your whole arm during the forehand topspin stroke.  Use as little effort as possible to get the bat from the correct start position to the correct finish position.

I find that focusing on relaxing your fingers helps with this as well.  If your fingers are tight, the whole arm tends to tighten up as well.  It is really important thought at you are still getting the bat to move in the correct path especially focusing on the start and finish positions.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
