Hi Coach,

Recently i had started focussing on hitting with as much topspin as possible on my forehand making only a very thin contact. As a result i have gotten into a groove of having a very thin brushing contact which puts a lot of topspin on the ball but it takes away the power that i cud put on the ball before plus it also takes me more effort to put any amount of power with a thin brush as a result of which i often go out of position.

Thanx

Hi Rajesh,

Think about changing the contact of the bat on the ball to generate more speed.  When you brush the ball too much you compromise the speed of the ball.  Try hitting some balls flatter. There is a trade off between spin and speed with the brushing contact.  Even if the ball flies off the end sometimes during training, keep experimenting with your contact to generate more speed.

Thanks coach wil work on that. I wanted to know another thing. Typically i hit on the top of the ball to make a topspin bt sometimes i m unable to cross the net. some players tell me to hit the ball from under it unless i m returning a topspin ball wit a topspin. Wat shud i do?

If the ball has backspin then lift the ball a little more.

You can keep your wrist relaxed and let it come through with the stroke.  You don't need to force it through.

You can hit it at the back of the ball as well as long as you are making a brushing up contact.
