Ok well i keep playing a guy at work and i am a more advanced player then he is in EVERY way. He holds the paddle in the most awkward way but he is about 6'1 and i am 5'6. Almost everything that i send his way he manages to come down or dig up but always with this side spin but in a very fast direct way because of his height. How can i get the upper hand. My back spin is my only tool that works with him but then we get into a back spin battle and i can never get it high enough to come back with top spin.

Hi Wilder,

A good tactic against taller players is to put the ball in close to them into their right pocket if they are right handed.  This forces them to move to play the shot.

If you are able to get the upper hand with backspin then start to work more on the Forehand Topspin Off Backspin.  The ball doesn't have to be high to play this stroke. If you ca get it to the stage where you are swinging through fast with this stroke correctly he will find it difficult to play his sidespin shots.  You will start to overpower him.

The Forehand Topspin Off Backspin is what will beat him.  Other than that try a bit of magic...
