Hi! Alois & Jeff,

Thanks guys! My son and I have been watching pingskills and enjoying the process of learning the game a lot.

I have been trying to do the pendulum serve, but am just not getting enough forward momentum to push the ball on the opponent side.

I have tried this serve on the floor and am able to get enough back spin to get the ball rolling back to me.

I want to use this serve successfully in a game.

Would love to hear from you.

Thanks!

Amol

Hi Amol,

Often it is the restriction of the table that stops the forward movement.  Try to get the bat up a little higher so that you are not worried about hitting the table when you are doing the serve.  I think this will help.  Then it is a matter of getting used to the action while standing at the table as well.

It does take a lot of time and experimentation to get it just right.

Ah.  Maybe that's my problem too, or am I just landing the ball too short on my side?  What is the ideal target landing zone on my side of the table?.

I can great side/back spin, both away from the table and at the table but during practice today at the table I struggled to get even half my serves going over the net.  Many bounced 2 or 3 times on my side then spun back and off to the side.  When I tried to ensure they went over, I ended up serving into the "bad zone".  What do I need to work on?

Thanks coach.

Keep working with the service practice.  Once you understand the basics, it just take time and adjustment.
