Generating a good topspin

Strokes

Hello, I recently watched some of your amazing videos and they've helped me improve my skills a lot. Thank you so much.

I've been playing table tennis for 2 years now, but I have this problem that I find hard to overcome. I cannot generate a good top spin, especially against a ball with heavy backspin. Most of the balls I return have a really small amount of top spin.

I have questions on three things: the bat angle before hitting the ball, the right moment to make contact with the ball, and the amount of follow-through.

I currently have the bat pointing upwards a little bit before hitting the ball, and I tried to make contact when the ball starts to come down and I stop my arm right in front of my body after I hit the ball. Are there some other ways which can improve my top spin?

It would be great if you can also make some other good suggestions that can improve my top spin. Thank you.

Hi Heejoon,

The things I would add are to make the swing bigger and try to contact the ball near the top of the bat.

Have your follow through go up above your eye level and try to generate as much speed on contact of the ball.

Get the contact near the leading edge of the bat to get more spin as well.
