Serving
Hi Alois & Jeff, I've been having a problem trying to get a lot of spin on my serve, such as a sidespin or backspin pendulum serves... I have been watching the Serving Secrets Revealed and I'm getting a fast brushing swing and contact... But when I ask my training partner if they had to open their bat for my backspin pendlulum serve and he says something like "What backspin?" So I tried to swing faster to get more spin and I end up getting either a long serve (when I'm trying to serve it short) or it goes off the end of the end of the table.... Ugh..... So how can I get more spin and a serve that will help me win more points.
Thanks so much in advance Alois! :)
Hi Collin,
The key is a finer contact. If you brush the ball fast you have to get a really fine contact to make sure it still goes short. The thicker the contact the further the ball will go.

Ok thanks that does work! But how do i get enough foward momentem... for instance, when i put backspin on it about 30% of the time it actually gets over the net and then comes back over or into the net... Another question, to get the really thin contact is it okay to almost tilt the bat backwards? Because i found that i can get a lot of spin that way... Thanks in advance Alois :D
Hi Collin,
Yes you can til the bat backwards to get enough spin. It is always a balance between a fine contact and enough of a contact to get the ball moving forward. Just experiment till you get the balance right.
