Training
Hi there coach, I just wanted to ask you something about being prepared. So there would be a table tennis varsity team try outs on our school this coming week and I really wanted to join. I ranked no.4 last year on our school and this year, I want to aim for higher rank. So my question is how would I prepare for the tryouts? What should I do and what should I not do to be in the best mood? thanks a lot coach.
Hi Wayne,
With only a week or so you will not change your ability very much so it is a matter of making sure that what you have is working well.
Focus on the first 3 balls in the rally during training. That is your serve, service return and third ball. These are the crucial elements for a match.
Don't try to train too much and don't try to change too much in this week. It is a matter of doing what you do well not trying to do something that you have never done before.
Then during the tryouts focus on each point, work on your tactics during each game and enjoy the experience.
For future events if you have more time to prepare we have a series of Training Plans for the last 8 weeks before a tournament in sessions 45 to 52 of our Training Plan series. These may be helpful for you in the future.
A slow spinny topspin can be very difficult to deal with. Think about using this type of loop in your game to draw errors from your opponent. Learn about some different ways to execute this stroke and find out if your opponent has difficulties with this type of ball.
