Getting the Run Around

hi coach

There's this guy that i play and he always has me running for the the ball i practise every day with my foot work and counterhits but he always has me moving and he doesnt move at all how can i stop this cos he's younger than me and it's imbarassing.

Hi Jamie,

You need to consider the early part of the rally.  Think about where you are serving to and where you are returning serve to.  If you can get the upper hand early in the rally it may stop him from dictating the play so much.

Take a look at the Lesson on Serve Placement.

Especially on the return make it difficult for him by pushing the ball wide or to a difficult position for him so he hasn't got time to place the ball well to you.

Hi

thanks thats good advice I've been practising my serve placement heaps with bits of paper trying to hit each one ten times in a row and it has been working I've become heaps better at making the ball go where I want it to good advice.
