Grip strength through the stroke

Strokes

Hi there coach. There is something I need to ask about holding the bat. It is clear to me now that I should hold the bat loosely. But my next question is this. While waiting for the ball to come, I hold my bat loosely, but as soon as I hit or prepare to kill the ball, I tend to use my power by holding the bat very tight. Is this correct? should I still hold the bat loosely while killing the ball or am I doing the right thing? Thanks in advance

Hi Wayne,

When you are actually stroking the ball your grip can strengthen to increase the power.  But this is really marginal.  It is not something that you need to concentrate on doing.  You will naturally squeeze the blade a little as it gains momentum.

The pivot is where you are moving around your backhand corner to play a forehand. This is something that will come in handy in a match situation, especially if you have a stronger forehand. We will show you the best way to move in the pivot footwork.

Hi Coach,

During the forehand stroke, should I squeese the blade a bit at the start position or just before hitting the ball ?  Also, should the pressure be released after hitting the ball or at the finish postion?

Hi Albert,

I remember one of my coaches once talking to us about that.  I don't know that I ever focus on it though.  It is really important that your arm remains relaxed during the stroke.
