hi alois,

ive noticed pros like wiliam henzell, or the great Wang Liqin make topspins right off the bounce much before the ball reaches a  good height!! how do they do this is it matter of touch and feeling or the ball or do they play with open faces?

i mentioned these 2 players because i see it more clearly when take it right off the bounce

Hi Shripathi,

It is a difficult stroke to take it off the bounce. YOu need to have your bat turned over the ball almost flat.  Strokes like this only come with a lot of training.  Many many years.

Take a look at our lesson on how to Counter A Spinny Topspin.  This will show you the stroke.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
