Strokes
Hi,
I just started playing the game. I am wondering which side of the bat should face the table. I mean, when shakehand-holding the bat, on which face the fore-finger should be on? smoother face or harder face?
Also, I find difficulty in hitting the faster in the fear of hitting out-of-table. So, I am concentrating more on spinning at this stage.
The videos are real helpful.

Hi Lakshman,
Take a look at the lesson we have on Get a Grip. This will help on how to hold the bat correctly.
When you are hitting it is good to get some topspin on the ball. This will help the ball to dip onto the table especially when you start hitting the ball faster.
I am glad that you are finding the videos useful. Let me know if you need any other help with it.
In this video, we dive into the forehand push, a crucial defensive stroke in table tennis that allows you to control rallies with effective backspin. We break down the three key concepts—start position, feet position, and finish position—to help you execute the stroke with precision. You'll also learn how to adjust your bat angle to generate varying degrees of backspin, depending on the spin your opponent imparts on the ball. Finally, we'll guide you through practical drills to enhance your proficiency and consistency with the forehand push, ensuring you're well-prepared for your next match. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your technique, this tutorial will provide you with the tools to master the forehand push.

Thanks for the response.
The video doesn't say direction (red rubber face or black rubber face). Like in video, you made grip such that the pointer finger is on black rubber face, so that when you back hand, you get more spin.
But, I have seen some videos where some hold the bat other way. Which way do you think is better?

Hi Lakshman,
The colour doesn't make any difference at all. That is a personal choice. The more important thing is the type of rubber.
A lot of players use exactly the same type of rubber on both sides and in this case it makes no difference at all. If you choose different rubbers for your forehand and backhand, then you probably picked them for a reason and know which one you want on your forehand and which one on your backhand.
It's important not to get to caught up on your equipment. Choose a good combination and then get to work on improving your game!
