General
G'day mates. I've been playing table tennis for a year now and a player from my school advised me to follow the style of my favorite player. I'm currently trying to learn Xu Xin's style but then I realized I will never be as tall as him despite my efforts hence even if I master his movements, I will never be able to deliver as much power as he can since my arms are way shorter. (I'm only 5'4")
My question is that is height really that big of a factor in this sport?
Despite its obvious disadvantages, does it have advantages as well?
Any personal experiences against a short player?
Hi Lemuel,
The good thing about table tennis is that there have been world champions of various heights so whatever height you are, you can become a top player.
Smaller players tend to be able to move better but tall players have a better reach.
Look at all the advantage you have not just your height in isolation and build your own unique game.
It is great to watch the best players in the world, but then go out and see what works best for you.
