 Hello Pingskills,

I am really eager to know about the steps required to execute the high toss pendulum serve especially with topspin. I have played with a lot of my friends and they are getting very familiar to heavy backspin serves or sidespin and they can counter it very well. I found out that when I put a bit of topspin on the ball having the same action as the pendulum sidespin serve, their return is flying off to the end of the table on my side.

What do I need to consider when I am trying to disguise the serve with sidespin but having topspin on it? And on either of the serves, what proportion should be kept between short and long serves?

Regards

Fayad

Hi Fayad,

The topspin serve can be very effective.  To get the topspin on the ball push your bat forward and up on contact.  Also hit the ball closer to the handle of your bat.

We show you this in detail in the lesson on the High Toss Serve in our Serving Secrets section.
