hi

I am great at playing backhands but i just cannot seem to play forehands. Whenever i do play a forehand, i play the ball very slow and the ball arcs upwards. Please can you give any tips?

Hi Hamza,

Firstly check your feet position.  Sometimes when a player says they are more comfortable on one side it is because they are turned a little too far to that side.

Try just turning your feet a littlle so that you arefacing more toward your forehand side.  This only has to be a small turn.  So your left foot could be a couple of inches/centimetres closer to the table than your right foot.

To get the ball to go lower try two things.  Firstly just turn the face of your bat down a little.  Again it is only a small adjustment and watch how high the ball goes.  To get th eball lower turn it down to get it higher turn it up.  Remember to still play the same stroke though.  This is important.

The other thing is to hit the ball slightly more in front of your body or earlier.  When you hit the ball too late behind you it tends to go up higher.

Give this all a try and see what happens.
