Hi Micka,
The surface of the rubber is tacky and can grip the ball. It doesn't necessarily mean that you can get more spin with it though.
He is also showing us his great control and feel for the ball by being able to catch the ball after throwing it up. This is a good skills to practice to develop control and feel.

Ive how some experience with tacky rubbers, when they are new they are very tacky and pretty much unplayeble. you have to play at least 1 week before it becomes a good rubber to play with.
Because of the tacky-nes you cant give alot of spin on your short serves because the bal doesnt really bounce of your rubber. when I played with A hurricane 3 My short backspin serve was short no-spin but after a week or 2 I was able to generate spin with the rubber on my serves.
Now I dont play with these rubbers anymore because they are hard to play with
