Hi Alois how do you play players who slice the ball left to right and right to left, also who backspin the ball.? Also more importantly how do you hit them off the table attack them. Theese people are hard to attack making you hit it into the net or out.

Also they often have a dynamite forehand or back hand smash, because they make you pop it up. How do you deal with them. i just wan't to know and i think others might too. Cheers thanks.

Hi Justin,

The best thing in this situation is to make a forehand topspin but have a short contact time on the stroke.  By brushing it quickly, it doesn't give the sidespin much time to take effect on the rubber.  You also need to contact finely to generate a lot o your own topspin.  So then instead of the ball spinning sideways you are changing it to spin with straight topspin.

If you really go after the stroke with a lot of racket head speed you will be able to counter these strokes.  It will also make it harder for them to smash the ball because of the amount of topspin on the ball.
