Training
Hi Coach,
As this might be very simple question but with a high expectation to get an answer .
My son (8yrs) and daughter(5 yrs) are just beginner and started learning the game but what I see that they lack movements and need your guidance for them to do shadows with movements.
regards and thanks
Yogesh
Hi Yogesh,
To do shadow play you can imitate any movement that you want to learn or practise. You are just doing it all without a ball.
The main thing is to make it as realistic as possible. You can use your imagination to track a ball and even try to get the feel of the ball hitting the racket as you swing.
You can incorporate movement or just stand still and practice the swing.
Take a look at this tutorial we have on Shadow Drills.
In this session you'll focus on increasing the speed of your footwork. To do this we ask you to forget about consistency and concentrate on speed. You should be playing at a pace where you can get around 4 or 5 balls on the table. If you are getting 10 or 20 balls on then you need to up your pace again. It's important to play right to the edge of your ability to actually increase your skill level. We also continue to develop the new serve you have chosen to work on.
