How to improve backhand loop and block

Hi Alois,

I am a beginner, having taken to TT only 6 months ago. When I analyze my own game, I find that I am more of a forehand player and not up to the mark with my back hand. I have been trying to improve my back hand by playing back hand all the time. However, my practice partners are at the same level as me and are unable to feed me on my back hand continuously. But I am doing what I can to play backhand and I see that most of the times my back hand blocks and loops are ending in the net.

I further reviewed my style and found that my stance is too close to the table with very little footwork. Can you also suggest some exercises / activities that can help improve my footwork, especially for the backhand.

I am 32 now and a 15 kilos overweight :-( to give you some idea about my physical fitness.

Regards

Vijay

Hi Vijay,

You could do a small footwork drill where your training partner feeds the ball to the wide backhand corner and then to the middle and you can move and play both backhand strokes from those two positions.

You could also teach yourselves to feed multiball which will make training for both of you better.  This is where you have a box of balls and you feed them out one at a time consistently and get the other player to do some drills.
