Improving in a short period

Hi there coach, I would like to ask about my improvement. I have about less than two months left before the varsity try outs and I wanted to top the ranking. That is the reason why I am working hard this time. Recently, I have been Playing in a club for Almost everyday, and each day I give 6 to 7 hours playing. But half of those time, I have been playing very badly and I am wondering if it's because I have played "too much" which could have made me exhausted.

if that is the case, would it be better if I play at least 2 to 3 times a week in the club and have drillings and shadowing during the remaining days of the week? or would I improve faster if I play in the club 7 hours a day for the rest of the remaining time even if I am playing in a bad shape with "out of tuned" strokes sometimes? Or what is the fastest way to improve my game?

Hi Wayne,

It is important that the time on the table is quality. If you are spending 6 hours on the table just hitting around it will have limited benefit.

It is better to do less hours with good concentrated practice, doing drills and structuring your session well.  I think doing drills is the best way with a mixture of some free play as well.

Switching Between Forehand and Backhand

Playing forehand and backhand strokes individually in practice is an important step in your development but to use them effectively in a game situation you must be able to switch between them. This sounds like a simple step but it's something you must practice. Lesson 10 focuses on ensuring you can quickly switch between your backhand and forehand table tennis strokes.
