Hi Utkarsh,

Most of the movement in table tennis is sideways so this is where I am going to focus. To move sideways you need to be really well balanced. The best way to do this is to get your feet wide apart and to get down low by bending your knees. Then you use a jumping motion with both feet to move sideways.

Watch this video on Footwork Basics. It will give you some good tips on improving your movement.

Hi Utkarsh,

You can practice this movement without even needing to be near a table. The more you practice it the better you will get at it. Once you get the movement right, you will find it is the best way to move in table tennis. You can move quickly and remain balanced for your next shot.

AS Jeff said, practice the movement more even away from the table. As you get used to the movement it will start to come naturally in the game as well.
