Improving the Grip of the Rubber with Cooking Oil

Based on this video "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ys13rLMzezM", is it true that Cooking Oil can increase the grip of your rubber?

Hi Stan,
I haven't tried it but don't recommend it unless you want to experiment with an old sheet of rubber that you don't want to use again.
