Hi Jeff

I was wandering, have you entered any Olympic games and if so what Olympics did you enter and how far did you get before you were put out. Also, what age did you and Alois start playing professionally and when did you start playing when you were young, if you can remember.

Thanks, Galen

Hi Galen,

Thanks for the question. I was lucky enough to play in my home Olympics in Sydney 2000. I played in the doubles with Brett Clarke. We played a qualifying match the first morning of the Games to make the main draw. This match was against Cuba and we managed to win. It was the first time an Australian Men's Doubles pair won a match at the Olympics.

In the main draw we played in a round robin where we lost to Yugoslavia and Germany. The German pair was Jorg Rosskopf and Timo Boll.

It was such a great experience to play in front of a huge home crowd.

I played a little bit of Table Tennis in primary school but I became more serious when I was 12 years old. Me and a friend joined up at the local ACT Table Tennis club and I was hooked!

Thanks. I would love to enter the olympics for table tennis. Glad to hear you beat the cuban team. And you went up against one of my favourite players Timo Boll. When Im a bit older I'll probably visit pingskills in Austrailia. Long flight from Ireland to you but I think I can manage. Where exactly are you in Austrailia?

Hey, we're the same! I started playing at the age of 11 and now i'm 12. I am also seriously thinking about entering the Olympics when i grow up. It's a shame i didn't start earlier. i could of had more of a chance. Most of the pros start under the age of 10. I'm currrently 2nd or 3rd best at my school. i'm also getting the hang of the counter hit Jeff! Although, my backhand may need a bit of work, i'm just so used to topspining all the time!

It is difficult to believe but when Jeff was playing there was very little videoing done of matches.  It is amazing how far technology has come ina few years.
