Strokes
Dear Coaches
I answer a lot of short balls with a flick, but sometimes i wish being able to jump forward and hit a short ball very hard.
But to do so, the timing must be right and i have to be sure about my footwork. I'm not able so far to perform that strike constantly (more faults than points).
Can you give me some hints, what to do?
I wanna be sure, that i have the right answer to a high, short ball when i'm away from the table.
Thanks a lot.
Hi Florian,
The flick can be hit quite hard as long as the ball is high enough.
Make sure you are coming in with your right foot to get to the shorter ball. To get the flick faster hit it flatter and faster rather than putting too much topspin on the ball.
Then just practice it a lot. Using multi-ball can be a good way of practicing the flick shot.
The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:
If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
