Whenever the ball is blasted to the back of the court, I always see kids running past to take the ball. What are they doing?

That is in tournaments where they use a lot of balls for the one match. Each point the players use a different ball. The ball boys run on to pick up the ball that was used for the previous point.
When the ball hits the ceiling the point is over. You must hit the ball directly back onto the table otherwise you lose the point. In International tournaments the roof needs to be at least 5 metres above the playing surface but in local competitions you might often encounter much lower ceilings.
