Left-Hand and Right-Hand

Strokes

Lately, I've been having trouble what hand I'm comfortable with. I am typically a right-handed person and most of the things I do such as writing etc, but when I play ping-pong the right hand feels wrong and every way. I have to use my left hand which feels pretty comfortable, but I also have the problem, with not being able to hit a forehand shot with my left arm.

So my question is, what should I do about this? And is it common to feel that the left hand is more comfortable?

Hi James,

I write with my right hand and play Table Tennis with my left.  Just see which is more comfortable for you.

If it is your left hand then you can work on your technique with the stroke.  It will get better.

Forehand Counterhit

The forehand counterhit or forehand drive is the foundation for more attacking strokes such as the forehand topspin or forehand loop. There are 3 critical factors:

  1. Your feet position
  2. Your start position
  3. Your finish position

If you concentrate on these 3 factors then your stroke will become extremely consistent. Once you can reliably hit 100 balls in a row then you are ready for more attacking strokes. If you can hit 1,000 balls on in a row then you know you've truly mastered the stroke.
