I sometimes play against a player who bounces the ball on his bat between 15 and 28 (the most I've counted) times before serving. It's irritating when you're standing there ready to receive, but it also makes the matches last a long time! Is there a limit to the number of times you can bounce the ball in this way? I have seen in another reply that there's no actual limit between points as long as play is pretty much continuous.
Thank you!
Lotti
Hi Lotti,
Unfortunately there is no specific time limit and the umpire, if there is an official umpire, should stop this because clearly, play is not continuous. The problem is that you may not have an official umpire making the enforcement difficult.
When the ball hits the ceiling the point is over. You must hit the ball directly back onto the table otherwise you lose the point. In International tournaments the roof needs to be at least 5 metres above the playing surface but in local competitions you might often encounter much lower ceilings.
