Coach, what are the differences between long and short pimpled rubber? What are the differences about their returns and how are they used in a table tennis matchplay?
Hi JM,
Long Pimple rubber reverses the spin on the ball.
Short Pimple rubber flattens out the spin. So it doesn't generate much spin on the ball. If you play with topspin it will come back quite flat.
Long Pimples tend to be used more by defensive players. Short pimples are used by attackers that like to play flat and fast.
Learn the effects of using normal rubber, short pimples, long pimples and anti spin. This is an introduction that shows how much spin each type of rubber can generate and how a spinning ball reacts when hit with each type of rubber.
