Coach,
I read that long pips reversed the spin. It did not explained what the player did action-wise. Did he push, chop or topspin it. My questions are: If he push a backspin serve what is the effect? If he chop a backspin serve, what is effect? Lastly, if he topspin a backspin serve what is the effect.
Thank you for explaining to me in detail.
Rodrigo
Hi Rodrigo,
The type of stroke only effects the spin on the ball slightly because the long pimples don't grip the ball.
If he pushes or chops the backspin it will still come back with some topspin. If he topspins the backspin it will have slightly more topspin on the ball when it comes back.

Miao with her pimples will be looking to play fast attacking Table Tennis. Brian Berry will be looking to mix things up with his unique blend of attack and defence.

Coach the thing I havent understood for a very long time and I have ignored is, what is the very purpose of using short and long pips? Thank you.
They give you a different reaction when the ball hits the rubber. The short pimples flattens out the flight of the ball. The long pimples slows the ball down and reverses the spin effect.
