I've recently been recommended to switch from my inverted rubber on both sides to a pips rubber on my backhand (as I play a defensive chopping game away from the table). Are short pips or long pips better for chopping? They both provide more control, more than the inverted rubber for chopping, but I'm still not sure about the advantages and disadvantages of each.

I also heard that long pips were banned. Is that true? If so then my decision would be more simple.

 Thanks!

Hi Ken,

The long pimples would be better for chopping.  Only some long pimples are banned. There are still many tyes of long pimple available.  So you do need to make a decision.

If you are mainly defensive on the backhand I would go with the long pimple on the backhand.

The long pimple gives you more control and spin reversal. When they put heavy topspinyour chop return will go back with more backspin.
