Long tomahawk side spin to left-hander's forehand

Strategy

Hello,

I'm left handed player and yesterday I had a match against right handed guy.

All he was doing is strong and long side-spin forehand tomahawk serve from his backhand side diagonally to my forehand side.

All I did is return to the middle giving him a lot of chances for strange slower forehand smash back to my forehand.  He just stood still at backhand side ready for forehand smash.

Making return lower or trying to attack the serve didn't help.  Maybe I should have tried with returns to his forehand side,  so he might have lost some time on footwork, he's weak in making loops.

What can I additionally change in my game next time I face this guy? Tnx!

Hi Ivan,

Because the serve is long you can start to develop your topspin attack return off these serves. Once you get the feel of the spin you should be able to play a strong topspin.

The direction will also help.  It sounds like he likes playing the ball from his backhand side.  Some players have a stronger forehand from their backhand side than their forehand

As another option you could take a step backwards and chop the ball back.  Since his loop isn't very good this ball may also give him problems.
