Strokes
Watched this youtube video regarding the shakehold grip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QXAXpZ8jRZw
What are you thoughts regarding loosening the grip. From what i've seen from the videos Pingskills has posted, it's advised to loosen the grip to allow for cushioning.
Would you guys agree with the sentiment to utilize more of a pinch hold on the bat? Also, what are the smaller salient details regarding grip that one should take note?
Hi Chris,
This is something we will explore more.
I think you can keep the whole hand relaxed. If you are allowing it all to happen naturally you will find that you will put just enough pressure to keep hold of the bat when required.
I think the main pressure on the racket comes from the tip of the forefinger. This alters the angle of your racket enough to alter the angle for your forehand and backhand slightly. If you pinch too tightly you won’t be able to make those subtle changes.
We will have a bit more of a think about it and perhaps make a lesson on it.
In this video, we dive into the forehand push, a crucial defensive stroke in table tennis that allows you to control rallies with effective backspin. We break down the three key concepts—start position, feet position, and finish position—to help you execute the stroke with precision. You'll also learn how to adjust your bat angle to generate varying degrees of backspin, depending on the spin your opponent imparts on the ball. Finally, we'll guide you through practical drills to enhance your proficiency and consistency with the forehand push, ensuring you're well-prepared for your next match. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your technique, this tutorial will provide you with the tools to master the forehand push.

Great idea to do a video. I hope you do it. Loosening the grip is hard to master. When a player hits a hard smash at me my reflex is to tighten the grip which makes my return worse. I look forward to your video.
