I think that their strokes serve different purposes. My impression is that for Ma Long it is more about to stay alive and then utilize his devastating forehand, while Wang Hao used his backhand a lot to finish points.

It's definitely Ma Long by the way. That it's more difficult to make a reverse penhold backhand is irrelevant. It's also more difficult to play a backhand with 4 fingers on the rubber, for instance..
