Maintaining balance and control

Mental Preparation

I heard that maintaining balance and control are one of the most important parts of the game. Although I can perform well in warm ups and rallies, I am unable to do the same during matches. When there is a high ball, I don't move into a good position to kill it off. I also stay too close to the table thus I miss some powerful shots. Are there any ways to gain more control during matches? Sometimes I don't get into the proper position to do the opening attack.

Hi Paul, It sounds like your feet don't move all in a match situation. This is often as a result of being a little nervous. Often the first thing that fails when you become nervous is your legs. Try to focus on remaining relaxed in your match. This may help you to move better and also play better in general.
