Hi alois,

I need more spin whenever I serve but I always end up doing an ordinary serve with no spin.

How do I get it to improve?

Thanks for answering

Hi Caleb,

Take a look through our lessons on Serving Secrets for lots of tips to how to serve better.  This also includes how to generate spin as well as going through a variety of serves and showing you how to get different types of spin on each of them.

For the Pendulum serve try hitting the ball closer to the end of your racket for even more spin.

As long as you have a decent rubber, it is possible to generate lots of spin. The key is to have a fast brushing contact. If you only have a fast contact, the ball will simply be hit fast. If you only have a brushing contact (not fast) you'll only generate a little spin. Combine the 2 and you'll get lots of spin.

The best way to practice this initially is by moving away from the table. This allows you to swing freely without worrying about keeping the ball on the table. Once you start to get the feel of a fast brushing contact you can come back to the table and practice it there.

Remember this is a skill that takes years to master and you can always work on improving your serve.
