Hello Alois and Jeff,

During my training and matches I always have to play at the highest level I have reached before, when I am not I feel very unsatisfied. Due to this my matches and training are negatively affected, how do I avoid or handle this idea that I must always be playing at the best I have ever played?

Best regards,

Bert

Hi Bert,

This is something that you need to come to terms with.  It is impossible to play at your highest level all the time.

As difficult as it is try to think a little more long term.  Set yourself some goals for 12 months time.  There will always be fluctuations in form during the year but hopefully in the 12 months your overall level will have increased.

We have set up the 2018 PingSkillers Table Tennis Goals which you can go to and add your goal for the year.  Then it is out there in the public... may help to keep you accountable with your focus and training.

Hey Bert,

Nobody plays at the highest level all the time, not even Ma Long does that. In order to improve your game, you need to relax, stop putting on so much pressure on yourself to perform. Consider yourself a student of table tennis rather than the grand master. Have fun with the game!
