Dear Alois and Jeff
I have for years used a Stiga Tube light blade and JO Waldner rubbers. Since these rubbers are not sold any more I have thought of getting used to the more popular Butterfly rubbers. I have therefore invested in a new all Butterfly bat with a Timo Boll Tri Carbon blade and as rubbers Sriver EL on f/h and Tackifire on b/h.
Now that the season is over I have tried it but alas the experiment is not working. The blade is too heavy but I could live with it. Sriver EL is not as controllable as JO. Tackifire however is an interesting rubber and found it even better when using it on the f/h. I have used this bat 3 times and lost to two players that I generally beat.
Should I persevere for a little longer? Should I keep the blade and use it with my trusted rubbers? Or should I return to my old love? In the latter case what is a reasonable substitute for Jo? And what about Tackifire any comments? On the f/h I drive with a flat action as I have never been able to spin with real effectiveness. On the b/h can attack but I generally block or tend to push with chop.
Kind regards and thank you for the excellent job that you do.
Filippo
Hi Filippo,
Firstly I must say that Timo Boll is sitting right in front of me so I better not say anything too bad about his blade!
I think you should persevere with your new set up. It often takes a little while to make the small adjustments that you need to play well.
Give it month or two before you make a final decision. Otherwise this game becomes expensive!
When choosing a net look for one with a good clamp, an adjustable height mechanism, and a way to tension the net.
