i cannot serve that well (pendulum serve). I either miss it because i don't know the right timing and i can't put a lot of topspin on the ball.

Hi Greg,

The pendulum serve can be very simple if you remember the basics. Your leg position is side on to the table with your left leg just touching the backhand corner of the table.

Your start position is with your arm extended out perpendicuar to your body.

The swing is with your lower arm only keeping your bat facing the side wall throughout.

To generate topspin you need to come up on the ball with your bat facing a bit more forward and hitting it a little later in your swing.

If you take a look at our new DVD, Serving Secrets Revealed it will become a lot clearer. You can access it through our Online Store.

The Kicker Serve

The kicker serve is one of our "must learn" serves. It's fast, fun, and has lots of topspin. It can be dangerous because if it's not fast enough and if you don't surprise your opponent then they may be able to attack it forcefully putting you on the defensive straight away. Used well though, and sparingly, it can be a great weapon. It can win you a point outright and it will stop your opponent from standing over the table waiting for your short serves since they need to be ready for anything.
