Hi Alois and Jeff

I am thinking of buying a penhold bat Butterfly Cypress-S blade or similar type. Can I glue a rubber on the back of this bat and not considered illegal for competition. Also can I cut the top part of the rubber to a curve shape and not straight so my 3 fingers are not resting on the rubber.- Owen

Hi Owen,

You can put rubber on the back of the bat.  If it is an approved rubber you can use it to hit the ball as well.  You can also leave a space at the bottom for your fingers.  Make sure you don't cut off the ITTF logo on the rubber or the brand name because that is what the umpires check in a tournament to make sure the rubber is approved.

Thanks Alois. The ITTF logo is a square box so there is no way I can cut the top part of rubber in a curve shape.

You can cut it straight and just leave a gap at the bottom if you like.  Move the whole sheet of rubber up the bat.
