Hello,pingskill

I'm going to buy myself a new penhold blade next week.DHS H-WH or Ma Lin extra offensive, but I haven't decided yet.  I'm going to buy two rubbers as well. It's going to be the first time I make my own blade so I'm quite unskilled in rubber cutting and sticking. Got any tips??

P.S:I have noticed, that the rubber on penholders' blades(Ma Lin for example)doesn't touch the handle on the forehand side. There is some space for the fingers. How much space should I leave between the handle and the rubber when I cut it and start sticking??And do I have to leave the same amount of space on the backhand as well?

Sorry for my english :D

Hi Alex,

Yes, for cutting use a sharp blade.  I use a scalpel which gives a nice clean cut.

So, glue the rubber onto your bat first and then cut around the edge.  You can use scissors but I find a blade or scalpel easier.

Howmuch space you leave is only preference.  Just place the rubber on your bat before you glue it and see what feels comfortable.  The backhand again is a matter of preference.  See what feels comfortable.

Tactics Against Penhold Players

When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
