Hi coach, i have problems regarding pivoting for 3rd ball attack. right after i serve, i often pivot to the bh corner even when the ball is not yet there, but by doing this, i end up leaving my fh side open, which is where most of my opponents would place the ball, and making me lose the point, on the other hand, if i do not pivot, my opponent would place the ball to my bh corner forcing me to make a poor return and having my opponent attack first.what should i do in order to execute a successful third ball attack?
Hi Wayne,
It is important that you either work on your backhand or your footwork or both.
If you have a big hole in your game, the opponents will continue to exploit these areas.
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
