Playing Against a Backhand Chop

Strategy

Hi Alois,

I have been recently playing at my local club where one of my opponents uses a backhand chop with a backspin that I struggle to return. Do you have any advice on how to return it effectively or prevent him from getting the opportunity to use it in the first place?

Thanks

Hi Kabeer,

The best strategy against this type of player is to improve your Forehand Topspin Off Backspin stroke.  Any long ball can be counteracted with this stroke.  At first just aim to get the stroke on the table.  As you get more confident with the stroke then you can start to increase the speed and change the placement of the stroke to make it more effective.
