When playing against chop you need to be able to topspin the ball effectively to counteract the backspin.

Take a look at the PingSkills Lesson - Forehand Topspin against Backspin. This will help you out.

In a game situation if they are consistently chopping you can also push some balls to change the rhythm of the game.

First though master the topspin stroke against backspin.

Tactics Against A Defensive Chopper

A chopper likes to get back from the table and get into a nice rhythm. If you keep the defender close to the table in the early part of the rally, it's hard for them to transition back into their chopping position. So keep the ball short on your serve and try and catch them unprepared. Watch the video to find out more great tactics to use against a defensive chopper.

Thanks for the great advice Alois. I mixed up my attacking loops with some pushes and it really confused my opponent.
