Playing Against Long Pimples

 Hi Pingskills,

In my School Team, many of them are playing with Long Pimples. I have watched your Video on the effects of rubbers and still have many questions unanswered. My coach tells me that Long Pimples reverses the spin on the ball. However, the stroke is different from the stroke in your video. Without the use of the wrist, the player simply pushes the ball over the net without adding any spin to it. So, if I serve a heavy backspin ball, the ball comes back as a topspin ball. This also applies to a topspin or sidespin ball. Based on my experience, this is true. So how do I play with such players? I have to constantly remind myself that after I flick the ball, I have to cut the next ball as the ball returns with backspin. Soon, this gets very confusing and I would constantly make mistakes. Could you please help me?

Thanks

Hi Stefan,

The principle you are using is a good one.  Keep it as simple as that.  When you topspin the first ball then push the next and then topspin again.

Try serving with backspin and then attacking the next ball.

Tactical Planning

Spin, speed and placement are the 3 things you need to focus on when coming up with your tactics against each of your opponents. Start with the serve and your third ball attack. Figure out what type of serve your opponent finds most difficult. Find out where is the best place to direct your first attack. Is your opponent better at blocking with their backhand or forehand? Does your opponent prefer a faster topspin or a slow spinny topspin? Do the same for your returns.
