Strategy
Hi Alois;
Thanks for all early responses u have made for my queries. I just want to ask you, as i am having better backhand control I try to move towards forehand side and play central or even forehand balls with backhand strokes. Should i continue with it or should try hard to play forehand balls with forehand strokes only. The only difficulty I face when opponent after judging my habit place the ball at forehand corner then i am merely able to return it (not able to make attack).
Hi Dilip,
I think you should work on your forehand control as well. This will make it even harder for your opponent. As you have found if you rely too much on your backhand they will place the ball wide to your forehand side and force you to either go right over and play it with your backhand which will leave your backhand side exposed or you will need to play it with your forehand.
Work on your forehand more.
When playing penhold players it is important to remember to first analyse your opponent as you would if they used any grip. What are their strengths and weaknesses? A common weakness of penhold players is their forehand block especially against a slow spinny topspin. Their backhand may be a weakness if they use the traditional style, or you may wish to explore the crossover point if they are using the reverse penhold backhand.
