Dear PingSkills,
If we may not have so much quickness of the feet and agility due to height or build, do you think a defensive chopping style is more suitable to explore? Or should we still stick to the attacking style with inverted rubber on both ends? Can the attacking style be played with lesser agility as well?
Regards,
Kenneth
Hi Kenneth,
I don't think your height is too much of an issue. I would more think about what you feel more comfortable doing, attacking or defending.
With regard to agility if you want to attack you can still do so utilising both forehand and backhand. I think a defender needs a lot of agility to move quickly and a greater distance as well.
A lot of the defenders tend to be a little taller with more reach but there are also very good attacking players that are tall.
Although attacking is the most popular style at the top level in Table Tennis, it is important to be able to defend well. If you choose to play a defensive style then you should be practicing these strokes all the time. If you play an attacking stroke then you should still try and find some time for these strokes. If you can win one extra point by defending well when pressured, it could make the difference between winning and losing.
